Frequently Asked Questions About Phin Filters

What is the best coffee for a Vietnamese Phin filter?

For the most authentic flavor, use a dark or medium-dark roast Arabica or Robusta blend. ACOMOCA’s specialty coffee sourced from Chikmagalur, Karnataka, is expertly roasted to highlight the bold, nutty, and chocolatey notes that work perfectly with a Phin filter.

Phin filter vs. French Press: What is the difference?

While both are immersion-style brewers that don't require paper filters, a Phin filter creates a much stronger, more concentrated cup of coffee (similar to espresso), whereas a French press produces a lighter, higher-volume cup. The Phin is also smaller, easier to clean, and brews directly into your mug.

What grind size should I use for a Phin filter?

You should use a medium-coarse grind. If the coffee is too fine, it will fall through the holes and clog the filter. If it is too coarse, the water will drip through too quickly, resulting in weak coffee.

Can I use a Phin filter to make hot and cold coffee?

Yes! The Phin filter is highly versatile. You can brew directly into a warm mug for a hot morning coffee, or brew it over a glass of ice for a refreshing iced coffee.
